Dr Pam Olver is leaving BCH

Nov 23 2018

After 17 years Dr Pam has made the decision to leave BCH.  Please see below for a personal message from Pam

For 17 years of privilege at BCH

After much soul searching I have made the decision to leave BCH. I am old enough to have grown babies into fine adults, both mine and yours. I have travelled many journeys with you all. I'm young enough not to be looking for a zimmer frame just yet.  It is now time for me to travel the path less trodden.

I am confident that the fantastic, kind, caring and excellent team at BCH will continue to provide you all with the best care possible. I will be finishing the first week in December when I follow my family to South Africa for Christmas. Ka kite ano

INFLUENZA SEASON IS UPON US - book now for your flu vaccine

Apr 06 2018

With winter fast approaching and the days getting shorter and darker it is a good time to come in for your flu injection.  We now have the flu vaccine available and the nurses have daily appointments to administer this.

The cost of our flu injection will be $30.  However the flu injection will be free if you are:

  • Over 65
  • Have diabetes
  • Have certain respiratory conditions
  • Heart conditions
  • Pregnant
  • and many others - check when you phone us whether you are eligible.

2018 Key messages from www.influenza.org.nz

  • Around 1 and four New Zealanders are infected with influenza or 'flu' each year.  Many won't feel sick at all, but can still pass it on to others.  Getting an influenza vaccination before winter offers you and others the best protection.
  • Pregnant women and their babies can suffer serious consequences as a result of influenza. A FREE influenza vaccination during any trimester reduces these risks.
  • Older people and those with certain medical conditions are more likely to have medical complications from influenza.  A FREE influenza vaccination reduces these risks.
  • Influenza is a serious illness that can put anyone in hospital or even kill them, including young healthy people.
  • Influenza vaccination is safe, effective and cannot give you 'the flu'

More than 1.2 million New Zealanders have their influenza vaccination each year.  Getting vaccinated each year as early as possible before winter hits us,  gives the best protection
